Feral Hogs and Electric Fence | Gallagher Electric Fencing
We get questions and emails from property owners all the time about feral pigs and hogs and the need for electric fence. Here is one from this week.
I have a 2 acre homesite on a lake in Corsicana TX. Ferrel Hogs are an opportunity hear. I need to put in a fence to keep them off the property. The dimensions of the lot are 250' x 354'. We have a horseshoe driveway hence; two breaks in the fence will be required. Id prefer a solar powered system. Can you advise on the materials and quantities I'd need to assemble this?
This is our answer:
Got your Email and understand your problem... shoot as many as you can first.
Then if you need a fence, an Electric one is the way to go, but it is not a physical barrier, only a psychological one to the hogs... They will need to be shocked to understand where it is and stay away... but may still come in if hungry enough...
So there are so many choices its real hard for us to make a recommendation with out seeing to property.... Best off is buy our wildlife fence kit.... you will need to remember your driveways and make gates... but it is the best way to go.

Three Ways To Choose A Cattle Weigh Scale Indicator
When choosing a weight scale indicator, these are the top 3 factors you need to consider.
Scale indicator memory - Allows for storing an animal's weight along with their visual tag and/or electronic id number. After weighing your cattle, you can connect your indicator to a computer and download the weights into a spreadsheet or your herd management software.
Electronic ID (EID) reader interface - Connect an EID reader to your scale indicator for easy scanning and recording of electronic IDs as animals are weighed.
Advanced data storage capabilities - Record additional data beyond animal identification and weight, including such fields as pregnancy status, body condition score, or other notes.

A cattle scale system is not just a piece of livestock equipment, but it's also a piece of technology. Given the investment you are making in scales, it is important to ensure that you are getting the right scale system to accomplish your goals.

Electric cross fences can be portable or permanent. Cost and ease of electric fence installation are factors to consider. Permanent posts and heavy steel woven wire can be expensive. A portable electric fence that is strung with a wire or two may be a better option.
Talk to any landowner and you’ll probably get an earful about fences. There is no perfect fencing that will fit everyone, especially when livestock and pasture needs change over time. However, cross electric fences provide pasture management flexibility. They’re installed inside a perimeter fence to divide an area.
Bruce Anderson is an extension forage specialist at the University of Nebraska. He says cross electric fencing comes in handy for many reasons, including separating animals, rotating pasture, and keeping livestock out of soggy areas. The type of fencing to use varies.
"If we have smaller animals, like sheep or pigs, or even chickens, we may use a fence that has a smaller potential opening for animals to get through and keeps them under much better control," says Anderson. "Compared to when we have things like cows or horses, that might be able to get by with just one little wire to be able to more psychologically control them than to physically hold them back."
Maintaining a cross electric fence can be a challenge if you have to fight barriers such as trees or a creek. Anderson says a concern for a lot of people is how to provide resources in each area.
"So it may not just be simply dividing up the pasture, we may have to do some development of how we're going to get water to those animals, either through some new wells, some moveable tanks, some ponds, even hauling periodically if that is what is needed," says Anderson. "That's probably our biggest downside to it."

Care of Electric Fence Sheep Goat Netting | Poultry Electro Net
Regularly check that the fence is properly electri ed. Nets that are not electri ed can be a danger to animals. A low- impedance fence charger must be used. The fence cannot be connected directly to an electricity supply. Before doing any maintenance on or near the net, turn off the fence charger. If grass and weeds are tall enough to touch the lowest electric strand (the second strand from the bottom), mow a strip of grass along the line of the fence before installation, or apply an approved herbicide. Do not spray the netting with herbicide. Keep the fence at least 6” away from non-insulated objects such as metal posts, water lines, or anything that can conduct electricity to the ground. Keep netting away from heat sources. When mowing around the netting, do not allow the muf er of the mower to hit the netting. Ensure that the fence charger has a good ground connection. Store rolled up nets out of reach of pests.
